New Lyric hearing aids: Rob’s story on how they opened up a whole world of sounds

Rob Buzacott is a retiree who has recently been fitted with new Lyric hearing aids. Rob keeps active and recently joined his local spin bike team to raise money for a Motor neurone disease (MND) charity.

Here Rob tells his story:

Early in October 2021, Dean Laird at My Hearing fitted me with a pair of Lyric hearing aids.  He’d recommended and fitted my last set of hearing aids around 4 years ago. He got in touch to tell me about Lyric and thought I might like to do a free trial – so that’s what I did.

My previous hearing aids were the conventional style. They were okay, but I found that I still missed a lot of sounds, especially conversations.

I regularly get together for coffee with a bunch of mates and I had a feeling that I wasn’t hearing some of the conversation.

I sometimes felt embarrassed because I’d say something and it was clear I’d misheard what was being said. No one picked me up on it, but I knew.

Now that I’ve been fitted with Lyric hearing aids, it’s all changed.

The difference was almost instant

You know that Fred Hollows video where he takes off the eye pad and the person is full of joy because they can finally see. That’s how I felt after I got my new hearing aids.

It was sensational. The difference was immediate.

After Dean fitted my new hearing aids, I rode my bike home. I cycle a lot and normally I’m unable to wear my hearing aids because of the helmet.

At first, I thought the sound was deafening! But then I realised, that was how the world sounded.

It’s great to be able to wear the hearing aids when I’m riding my bike. It’s safer because I can hear the traffic, and it means I can enjoy my surroundings.

A more natural sound

With Lyric, things sound a lot closer to natural sound.

I guess some people need time to adjust, but I noticed the difference as soon as they were fitted. I can now tell where sounds a coming from and I love hearing the sound of birds.

It’s also made a big difference to my wife.

I know it’s been a bit of a struggle for both of us. Me, having to continually ask her to repeat herself and for her, a bit of frustration in our everyday communication.  Now, I can hear what she’s saying clearly.

I really appreciate that Dean got in touch about the new Lyric hearing aids. He’s been excellent.
